Traditional keeping of Japanese honeybee
Self introduction
Self introduction of beekeeper
I've lived in Kyoto prefecture in Japan.
I've been keeping about 80 families and gathering honey 500kg a year.
I've started beekeeoing for 10years.
So, a beekeeping is my precious hobby.
↓My house
I have over 50 apiaries, and the most farthest apiary is located in a place morethan30 km from my house.
I've been keeping a few families in my house.
Most of the families are in my friend's gardens and fields.
↓ My apiary in my fruit garden
You might think that it is hard to keep because my apiaries are interspersed widely,
but I do not need complicated care for them.
The reason why I do not requre it is their tough nature.
The Japanese honeybee can endure disease and harmful things like hornet.
They need hardly any care.
All I have to do follwing things like this.
First, I set up bait hives in Spring.
Honeybees will move in that bait hives and live there as our pet.
As I said "They need hardly any care(our helps)."
So, we have to do only observation of them.
In Autumn, I will visit my apiaries and gather honey.
I can take about 5kg of honey a family every year.
Of course, I leave them enough honey to get over a winter.
I introduce catching swarm, taking honey, and so on in other pages.
Next page is about catching swarm.
